Literacy Advance has two main programs for the Houston community:
Adult Basic Education (ABE) is for students whose first language is English, and who need to learn or improve their BASIC reading and writing skills. ABE classes are taught one-to-one, i.e., one student per tutor.
English as a Second Language (ESL) is for people whose first language is not English, but who want to learn or improve their English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. ESL classes usually have five or six students with one tutor.
Registered students can also enroll for Special Classes, if available. Special Classes include conversation, computer courses, job readiness and more.
ALL STUDENTS must come to an orientation session before they can start classes.
Orientation sessions are held every week at the main campus in West Houston, and at the Bay Area campus.
After you attend orientation, we will place you on our waiting list.
We will call you when a class becomes available.
