A native Houstonian, Valerie Koehler (pronounced Kayler) grew up in West University and attended St. Agnes Academy. After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama in what feels like 1900, Valerie has held a variety of jobs including a stint as manager of Brennan’s Restaurant.
A life long reader, Valerie opened Blue Willow Bookshop in October 1996. Located on Memorial Drive at Dairy Ashford, Blue Willow is a step back in time to the old neighborhood shop. Valerie is deeply committed to bringing the love of reading to people of all ages because she believes you are never too young or too old and NEVER too busy to enjoy a good book. She spends countless hours at the messy desk in the back where she carefully identifies and finds the next BEST READ EVER!
Valerie serves on community boards as well as trade associations. Her professional life includes speaking before groups of all kinds. She tries to encourage small business owners to “get the entrepreneurial spirit”.
Following the nomadic nature of her husband’s career, Valerie has lived in several oil towns. She is married to an incredibly patient husband, has two sons (one at TCU and one at Oklahoma State) who keep her grounded in reality.
